We have been waking up early to try and beat the heat, but since the heat kicks in about 8 am it isn't really working out to our advantage. We have only been in Kansas one day, and already the wind is brutal. There were headwinds of 15-20 mph all day long! It's even more challenging than climbing up the mountains! The wind just beats at your face, and slows us down to pretty pathetic speeds. We made it back onto our "transamerica" route about 40 miles into the ride, in the glorious heat of the day. The one really crappy thing about the route is that often there are very minimal services, so if you want a cold beverage you're out of luck. We made it into Eureka, KS, and stayed at a classy motel (with courtesy tornado warnings)
