Today was our first longer ride. The terrain was really pleasant, but we ran into a few hiccups. It started to rain about 20 miles into the ride. Hmm, I take that back, it started to pour. Which riding in the rain isn't a huge deal, except it's unsafe. And given that it was really dark & overcast we decided to pull over and huddle under a tree until it cleared up. We waited for a bit, but decided finally to try and ride into the next town, and luckily while we were riding it cleared up. Apparently it's supposed to rain again tomorrow. There's a reason Virginia is so green (and a reason I can't wait to be closer to the west coast).
We also had our first minor fall today. We found this awesome path & were just cruising along when it abruptly ended in a mud pit & Diane (no, I don't refer to my mom by her first name, but for purpose of this blog will) took a little spill. Nothing major, just a little bump in the road.
The end of the day we got lost and took a nice detour south to Richmond Virginia. Not a big deal, but just a little frustrating. Overall the riding was beautiful with historical plantations & battlefields every few miles, and it was really nice not to have too many huge hills seeing as in a couple days we hit the Appalachians (and quite possibly the last you will hear from me).

Ah! Can you believe you're doing it! I love your posts so far. Please keep writing. Do you have your routes mostly planned out? I hope your mom is doing ok after the spill. Tell her hi for me! I'm pretty confident our trip south of the border is still on. Can't to hear about the next leg!
Okay, the last we'll hear from you? I don't like the sounds of that. I know it will be difficult to get internet access though, so I guess I'll live. So great to hear about the trip! You're doing it!
